I started thinking about New Years Resolutions on a parent level and came across this article on Parents Magazine http://www.parents.com/parenting/better-parenting/advice/10-real-mommy-resolutions/, which I ended up tweeting about....
10 Real-Mommy Resolutions: Put a Cap on Your Work Day (via @parentsmagazine) http://t.meredith.ly/O5xFk2i #NewYears #resolutions #parents
It got me thinking about taking the time to slow down and really take everything in, especially my children. My littlest one has just turned 2 and I'm noticing she's hitting milestones at lightening speed. She is talking like crazy, forming sentences, counts to 10 and knows the whole alphabet. As much as I want her to stay a baby (longer), I'm always excited to witness her progress.
Since I can't slow down time, it's time to make some New Years Resolutions, in making changes to my everyday routine/activities. As a working Mom who has also just started a new business, I need to make some adjustments to my schedule and manage my time better, to truly enjoy and focus on my kids. One thing I couldn't agree with more, is putting a cap on my work day. I love my job, so I am definitely guilty of working longer hours throughout day. And with starting a new business, I tend to work even longer hours than expected.
Now it's time to schedule in play dates, walks, activities and park days for me and the kids. In turn, not only will it be of benefit to my kids, but also a benefit for me. If I write these activities into my calendar, I am more likely to follow through. (That's the problem with getting older, if I don't write it down, I WILL forget).
Plus the activities and walks will help me get back into shape, so it's a WIN WIN all around. Happy New Years everyone!!! Feel free to share your New Years resolutions with me on Twitter or Facebook

Swimsuits with Moms in Mind - Maternity/Nursing swimwear
When I was pregnant (what now feels like ages ago) I was surprised I wasn't able to find much of a selection in swimwear when it came to nursing or maternity tops. I knew I wanted to breastfeed and I wanted to find swimwear that I still felt sexy in. I searched everywhere, in maternity stores, on the web and I couldn't find anything. I decided to take matters into my own hands and designed my own line of maternity/nursing swimwear, that allows Moms to conveniently and discreetly nurse their child poolside or at the beach, while still looking trendy and sexy.
Instead of having an opening under the breast, like most of the swimwear out there, I decided to use nursing clips. I found the suits with the opening under the breast didn't give any support and we all know how big our breasts can get when engorged. I designed a swimsuit line that not only offers the support under the breast, but the inner frame also pushes the breasts up, enhancing cleavage (wink, wink). The solid, one-handed nursing clips are so easy to clip and un-clip.
All of the tops are completely adjustable, so they adjust to the ever-evolving pregnant body, the weight gain and weight loss. You can wear our swimwear during pregnancy, post-pregnancy or as a traditional swimsuit. You can check out all the benefits of our nursing tops with this video.

Creative Halloween Baby Bumps
I love Halloween. Halloween is such a creative time of year. The thought put into Halloween costumes and even home decorations is amazing. This year I came across pictures of pregnant women that decorated or incorporated their baby bump. One painted her bump as a beach ball, while dressed in a bikini. Being that I'm in the swimwear business, this one ended up being my favorite.
But I must give shout-outs to the other creative new moms out there. One mommy-to-be painted her pregnant belly as a pumpkin while her husband held a carved pumpkin beside her, with the arrival date and name of their soon-to-be newborn baby.
Then there's the scary baby bump costumes - a fitted t-shirt with baby arms coming out of the belly, surrounded by blood. The DIY costumes, like the cat costume with the fish bowl painted on the belly, I also enjoyed. This sunny-side-up costume on Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/11/halloween-costumes-for-pregnant-women-2013_n_4071993.html cracked (LOL) me up.
Halloween is all about kids, family and of course candy. Keep up the Halloween spirit Moms. Thanks for sharing. Here are some pics...

Parenting Interrupted
I read this article in the Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jennifer-meer/distracted-living_b_4059857.html and it brought me back to two nights ago. As a mom and entreprenuer, I find I'm constantly juggling a million things at once. I just started a maternity, nursing swimwear line for pregnant and new moms, so answering emails and phone calls while my toddler plays nicely on her own, is nothing new.
But two nights ago was a different story. My baby girl made her way upstairs, which is a normal occurrence as well, but instead of finding her sisters toys to play with, she found the WD40 that was literally left out two minutes before (as my husband was going to grease up the squeaky door hinges). I was, of course, on the phone and my husband quickly ran into our bedroom to pack another item he had forgotten about, for his upcoming business trip. As the Huffington Post article points out, it literally took two minutes for my daughter to flip the lid off the oil, pour it all over the hardwood stairs and rub her hands and feet in it.
I first smelled the oil as I walked up the stairs to check on her and of course screamed when I realized she was in fact playing in the toxic, hazardous oil. My heart sunk so far into my stomach. My husband ran into the stairway and was just a shocked as I was. Our initial reaction was to smell her breath to make sure she hadn't ingested the oil. Lucky for us, this was just a finger-painting project for my little one. We immediately threw her into the shower and washed the oil off. I felt so lucky this situation wasn't worse than what it was. But I have to say, this was a huge wake-up-call for both my husband and myself. We were so easily distracted by other factors, we ignored the most important thing in our lives.
I know it's easy to get caught up in everyday life, but this situation made me realize the phone calls, tweeting and texting can wait. My daughter is already growing up so fast as it is (she's already brushing her own teeth). I don't want to wake up one day and feel like I missed anything. It was time for me to re-prioritize and re-organize my daily routine - allocate the proper time to focus on my work and spend good-quality time with my daughter, without the distractions.

The Pursuit of Trendy, Sexy Maternity/Nursing Swimwear
I was
pregnant for the first time and could not have been happier. I felt great my
skin, hair and body looked really healthy, and knowing that I had a living
human being inside of me brought the greatest joy imaginable.
Living on
the coast, swimming at the beach is part of life. To my great surprise and frustration, all the maternity
swimwear available was unattractive, ill fitting, poorly designed and
impractical. It felt as though the
bathing suit industry had abandoned us pregnant women, and that we were second
class! The caring, thought,
respect and research simply were not there in the design of maternity swimsuits.
I decided
that it was time to do something about that situation. Expectant and new moms deserve to have
a well designed bathing suit that meets the evolving needs of a pregnant woman. Based on those needs, Bikini Mamas was
born.
At Bikini
Mamas, our goal is to design and manufacture a line of sexy looking, durable
maternity/nursing swimsuits, incorporating the latest styles, colours and
patterns. We also ensure that our
swimwear is comfortable to wear, easy to use and take care of, and provides
your body optimum support, during and after pregnancy. We offer this quality and selection at a price you can afford.
Being
pregnant is one of the most wonderful times in a woman’s life. At Bikini Mamas, we strive to offer hip
maternity fashions and styles that will enhance this rewarding and special time
of your life with our carefully crafted and thoughtfully designed maternity bathing
suits. We are convinced that once
you see and try our swim wear, you will be sold on our quality products.
